OBJECTIVE

I am a skilled electronics engineer, specialized mainly in power electronics, embedded device design and low-level software.  I have strong experience from various fields of electronics design and low-level programming. Furthermore electronics and embedded computers have been my hobby for over two decades, which supports my work experience quite nicely.

Productization is my main strength, I enjoy turning the impossible sounding visions into reality. I am always on a lookout for new work/project opportunities, so if you think I could fill an opening in your project which matches or complements my fields of expertise, please contact me.

TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
Electronics

  • Strong experience from both analog- and digital (power) electronics design, layout design and design verification including:
    • AC Input and power factor correction topologies and control.
    • DC / DC converter topologies and control.
    • DC / AC converter topologies and control.
    • Power magnetics and filter design.
    • Mixed signal boards, digital control.
    • Product EMC- and ESD- performance. Filter design, verification and design optimizations against various international standards.
    • Overall product safety conformity against various international standards.
    • Manufacturing issues,  methods, DFM, production testing methods and DFT, electronics reliability and related testing, .
  • Product design (overall integrating mechanics, software and electronics).
  • I have designed several volume production embedded mixed-signal and power conversion units running in tens of thousands units per year.
  • Microcontrollers: ARM Cortex/9/7, AVR, Altera FPGA’s (Nios-II), MSP430, 8051.

  • Basic knowledge on SQL and database administration, mainly from mysql and postgresql.

EXAMPLE PROJECTS
Some example projects I have worked on.
Power products:

  • 250W UPS device, AC+DC Input, AC Output.
  • 550W Integrated LTE base-station power supply with wide AC Input and multiple DC outputs.
  • 10kW convection cooled DC power distribution unit, IP65.
  • 650W universal AC Input ”frontend” for LTE basestation, convection cooled, IP65.
  • 450W universal AC Input and up to 425VDC multi output constant current power supply for LED modules, convection cooled, IP67.
  • 8kw convection cooled DC power distribution unit, IP65.
  • Control module development for Efore Opus product family. I was part of R&D team developing the latest controller modules for Efore OPUS family of DC power systems products. All of the developed products were microprocessor based mixed signal boards with very wide range input power supplies and quite challenging analog measurement circuitry.

Other electronics:

  • Various tasks related to industrial machine control, PLC’s and robotics with Autonomics Ay. Including electronics design of some modules, electronics repairs, Programming of Twincat / Ethercat control system and Fanuc r2000iB robot.

Oulu polytechnic:

  • Electronics design on battery powered DSP board, which consisted of TI TMS320 series dsp, TLV320AIC audio codec and radio receiver. Device was utilized to encode some digital data into audio channel of video recording.
  • Power Over Ethernet powered measurements card: General purpose card which could be used to carry out variety of measurements over ethernet. Electronics consists of AVR MCU, A/D converters, amplifier stages. Digi Connect ME used for ethernet connectivity. Software for AVR in assembler.
  • Accelerometer: AVR interfaced with ST 3-axis accelerometer, data output from serial port, software for AVR done in assembly.
  • FPGA-Demo: VHDL Modules to interface A/D converter block to NIOS-II and VHDL state machine to control the whole application.
  • Web controlled mains switch: Digi Connect ME embedded microcontroller interfaced to some relays. User could toggle and check status of electrical appliances through web-interface. Software written in C.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

  • Physical exercise
    • This has become perhaps my most favourite spare-time activity in past years.
    • I’ll spend my time mostly on Running, Biking, roller-skating or hiking in forests. Or on winter it’s cross country skiing and iceskating.
    • Building and improving ”my ultimate commuter” bicycle for daily work trips.
  • Music
    • Listening to a variety of different music styles, usually a good individual in band is what draws my attention.
    • I’ve been playing keyboards for pretty much all my life and guitar for several years.
    • Audio related electronics, amps, audio generation, filters…
  • Travel
    • Traveling and exploring different cultures has become more and more interesting. My leisure trips have been mainly to different parts of Europe.
    • Work trips nowadays have only one destination, which is China.
  • Information technology
    • Electronics is my long term hobby.  Top list of interests might be as follows:
      • Very efficient power supplies.
      • Audio reproduction and generation.
      • Wired and wireless networking.
      • Car motor control electronics and electrical transportation.
        My daydream is to do my own lightweight ~20-40kW 4wd e-buggy. (As light as possible, those batteries will be heavy.)
    • Computers and software from embedded systems to personal computers.
  •  Other
    • Woodworking / home improvement / other DIY.

FUTURE PLANS
I hope to find a good and challenging job related to embedded R&D where I can utilize my current skills and knowledge well and also get to develop my expertise further.
